🗳️ The day has finally arrived: today’s (final) vote on the Carbon Removal Certification Framework is a huge milestone in European climate policy. The CRCF was adopted with 441 Yes and 139 No votes (41 abstentions) by the full European Parliament.
🛡️The CRCF is the most advanced attempt globally to define what carbon removal is and how to certify it. It will become the key building block for any EU climate policy planning to use carbon dioxide removal (hashtag#CDR). Further, it will likely become the global gold standard and will be copied by many countries around the world.
🔜 Looking ahead: we now have a final legal text which will only need to be formally adopted at the end of 2024. Focus will now shift to the work of the EU Commission and its CRCF Expert Group which is tasked with developing a set of delegated acts, basically the actual details of the CRCF.
📣 Tune in on April 15-17th for the next (public) gathering of this group (agenda linked at the bottom of the page): https://lnkd.in/gA6fg_Sr

👏 Congratulations to Lead Rapporteur Lídia Pereira and all other MEPs who worked tirelessly to pass this landmark legislation and Christian Holzleitner, Fabien Ramos, Valeria Forlin, Andrea Klaric, and the rest of the team at the EU Commission for spearheading the entire legislative process.
❓Very keen to hear your take. How do you see the importance of today and the CRCF?
