🇪🇺 Two weeks ago, the Carbon Removal Certification Framework (hashtag#CRCF) Expert Group met in Brussels to determine how the CRCF will actually be implemented and to decide which technologies to develop methodologies for first. See my takeaways from that workshop here.
🔥 Biochar carbon removal is the most shovel-ready durable removal technology we have:
-93% of all durable deliveries in 2023 (87% in 2022)
-The lowest cost per tonne of all durable carbon removal
-A technology readiness level (hashtag#trl) of 8+ (out of 9)
As such, it is not surprising that BCR is among the first technologies the CRCF will develop methodologies for (alongside hashtag#DACCS and hashtag#BECCS).
🙋 One of my takeaways was the lack of industry representation within the Expert Group. So now is your chance to contribute. Today they opened the online registration for the BCR CRCF Methodology Development which will take place online on 18th of June 2024. Sign up here: https://lnkd.in/dgvqgCXE
🗓️ A reminder of the overall timelines:
- BCR Technical Scoping Paper released in May
- Online workshop on BCR workshop on June 18th
- Strawman BCR methodology in September
- Expert Group meeting week of October 21st
- Draft BCR methodology published in late 2024 - early 2025
👀 I really hope you will show up to this meeting and contribute to ensure biochar receives its rightful place in this landmark piece of legislation that will likely become the gold standard for carbon removal certification globally.
