🌍 The speculation is over - we have data: globally, between 5,294 and 21,210 people are part of the CDR workforce. That’s it.
🤯 Let that sink in: The entire global workforce tackling one of the planet’s most urgent crises is smaller than some tech companies.
📊 Here is the actual breakdown by company size:
1-10 employees: 276 companies
11-50 employees: 157 companies
51-200 employees: 33 companies
201-500 employees: 8 companies
⚠️ Caveat: this estimate is based on LinkedIn employment data of 474 CDR companies. It is likely a conservative number and does not account for people working on CDR in companies whose primary focus is not CDR (e.g. buyers) - likely a few hundred more people. Also, it does not include temporary or outsourced work such as construction of facilities.
🛠️ The fact of the matter is: We are not scaling nearly fast enough. If we’re serious about achieving hashtag#NetZero, we need to build the workforce that will drive carbon removal, and we need to do it *NOW*.
❗ That is why CDRjobs is so crucial at this time. We are here to make sure that quality talent finds its way into CDR. The workforce we need is growing and we are making it happen one job at a time.
💬 What’s your take? Are we doing enough to grow the talent pool for the future of carbon removal? Is this number higher or lower than you expected?
