📜 At the end of September U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (Democrat, West Virginia) and John Barrasso (Republican, Wyonming) introduced America’s Revegetation and Carbon Sequestration (ARCS) Act of 2023.
🌲 ARCS is a bipartisan legislation that aims to restore ecosystems and boost carbon storage and sequestration through tree planting, fire risk reduction projects, and expanded use of forest products and new wood technologies which would boost #biochar industry in the US.
🌱 More specifically, ARCS will fund a pilot program under the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to add biochar as a feed additive livestock.
📈 In partnership with the US Geological Survey (USGS), a national commercialisation plan for the production, use, and sale of biochar as a soil amendment will be published, including a framework for demonstration efforts to increase consumer demand for biochar.
📣 Shout out to US Biochar Coalition (USBC) who has been working tirelessly to raise federal and legislative awareness of the benefits of biochar.
