🇪🇺 Which direction should the Carbon Removal Certification Framework (#CRCF) take? 🇪🇺

210 statements on the CRCF were submitted to the European Commission. Here are some of the statements on my radar worth reading and further down my analysis:

Negative Emissions Platform (Chris Sherwood) - https://lnkd.in/e-_5DKGk

Carbon Business Council (Ben Rubin, Isabella Corpora) - https://lnkd.in/e6WVuXym

European Biochar Industry Consortium (Thomas Hämmerle, Harald Bier) - https://lnkd.in/epXpTjSU

Bellona Europa (Mark Preston Aragonès) - https://lnkd.in/eMpnhMQT

Carbo Culture (Hanna Ojanen) - https://lnkd.in/euYQpxaJ

Puro.earth (Helen Bray) - https://lnkd.in/eUeWcdR7

Carbon Engineering Ltd. (Omar Zin Abidine) - https://lnkd.in/e3BpQprd

Bioenergy Europe (Ennio Prizzi, Irene di Padua) - https://lnkd.in/emS_tTwF

Carbon Gap (Verena Hofbauer) - https://lnkd.in/eeGT_FnX

Stockholm Exergi (Johan Börje) - https://lnkd.in/edzeWp23

Carbonfuture - https://lnkd.in/efCf4kFX

Here are some common themes that stand out in these statements:

⚡ Technology neutral approach to permanence

Ensuring that permanence is not limited to CDR with geological storage and based on key principles instead (permanence, additionality, sustainability, etc.).

🔍 More focus on applications and use cases

Ensuring that potential use cases both in the voluntary (#VCM) and particularly in the compliance market (e.g. #ETS) are made explicit to realise the full potential impact of the CRCF.

💡 Elevating the role of Biochar Carbon Removal

Ensuring that #BCR - one of the most promising CDR technologies available today - is adequately represented and necessary liability frameworks are put in place.

🔑 Keeping the CRCF focused on quality removals

Ensuring no emission reductions or avoidance find their way into the CRCF and maintaining the highest standards for removals to create trust in the process.

🌏 Harmonisation with other regulation

Creating linkages with key European policies for legislative consistency and with international policies to enable non-EU stakeholders to interact with the CRCF.
